I used to play this game all the time as a kid. The nostalgia factor is basically what made me buy it, and what keeps me coming back to it again and again. But even nostalgia can't make a game beloved forever. Behind the nostalgia is a fun Trading Card Game that's simple and easy to learn and pick up. It's always fun to get your favorite classic Monsters from the series in your first deck, and it's also great fun when you finally have enough cards to add a new monster card to your deck. Eventually, you could even create some strategies by combining the strong areas of all of the different monsters! For instance, Suezo's inherent guts-reducing abilities or Golem's high HP and defense cards. As a card game lover, this ended up being on of my favorite Game Boy games.
The gameplay and graphics are decent for the day and age the game was released in. If you enjoy cad based battle games then you might like this. Plus if you complete the game it links to some of the other games in the series.

I had a similar game for the Playstation, but it broke, so I bought this version. You cannot expect too awfully much from an original game boy color game, but if you liked the Monster Rancher Battle Card game for the playstation, I think this is another fun version. However, the story line is a little strange. Translations from whatever the original language was makes understanding most characters very difficult. Overall great!
Some residue on the label I didn’t spot in the photo but was easy enough to remove. Packaged well a+.
